Want to beat the heat but don’t want to spend a fortune? Check out these 10 DIY AC (air conditioning) techniques for staying cool in your home this summer. See if any of these work for you! Read more here.

Don’t have an AC at your home? Trying to stay cool in this hot weather? Don’t worry, here is the solution for staying cool this summer. Try making your own DIY air conditioners. Sounds too complicated? You are about to find it way too easy.

We have listed down 10 DIY air conditioner ideas for you and your family:-

1. DIY AIR CONDITIONER WITH FAN AND ICE:-

This is the easiest hack to make your room cooler. You will only need a fan and some ice. Instead of blowing air around the room, the fan blows cold air.
First of all, put some ice cubes in    a tray. Now, put the fan near the ice tray and angle it down slightly towards the ice tray. Now the air will get cooled down as it passes over the ice.

However, this DIY AC isn’t going to last longer because the ice will get melted quickly because of the hot weather. Instead of ice cubes, you can use ice blocks for a better experience. Also use a faster fan for better results.

2. PORTABLE AIR COOLER MILK CARTON:-

This is a compact DIY AC to keep you cool. You will need a milk carton, a computer fan, some ice cubes, a 12V adapter, a soldering iron and a hot glue gun to complete this build.

Start this build by making a cut on the milk carton to fit the computer fan on it, using a hot glue gun. Now, connect the wires of the adapter and fan by the soldering iron. The next step is to put some ice cubes inside the milk carton.

The computer fan will blow the air into the carton, over the ice cubes. The cold air will come out through the opening of the carton.

This is a small build and the ice cubes will last longer because the milk cartons are designed to keep the product cool as long as possible. You can also use this build to cool a car, by using an USB car charger instead of the adapter.

3. ICE CHEST AIR CONDITIONER:-

You will be needing a Styrofoam ice chest, a compact fan, 2 angled PVC pipe joints and some ice cubes. This build is big enough to hold huge blocks of ice, so it will cool your for a longer time.

First of all cut out 2 holes on the styrofoam ice chest, big enough to fit the angled PVC pipe joints. Then cut another hole to fit the compact mini fan on the chest. Now fit the 2 pipes and the fan on the chest and put some ice blocks or cubes inside the chest.

The fan will blow the air into the chest, which will get cooled in the chest and the chilled air will come out through the pipes.

4. EASY DIY AC WITH PLASTIC SODA BOTTLE:-

To build this DIY AC you will need 2 plastic soda bottles, some ice cubes and a fan.

First of all, make some holes on the plastic soda bottles and attach them to the back of the fan. Now put some ice cubes inside the bottles.

The fan will draw the cold air through the holes on the bottle and blow it out. This is a great low budget air conditioning solution, which can be made in just a few minutes. Just remember to put a tray under the bottles to catch the water because eventually the ice will melt due to condensation.

5. PORTABLE ICE BUCKET AC:-

This is a similar but inexpensive DIY AC as the Ice chest AC. To build this AC you will need a bucket, a compact mini fan, a pvc pipe, and some ice cubes or blocks.

Fit the compact mini fan on the  top of the bucket. Now cut 2 or 3 holes on the side of the bucket. Fit 3 small pvc pipes into the holes. Now put some ice blocks or cubes inside the bucket and turn on the fan. The fan will blow air into the bucket, where the air will be cooled down by the ice and then the air will come out through the pipes.

6. CONVERT YOUR STANDING FAN INTO AN AIR CONDITIONER:-

So far, we’ve looked at projects which requires a fan and some ice. In this build we will use a copper tube to circulate the cold water infront the fan to make the blown out air cooler.

You will need a fan, a copper tube, a container, small water pipe, a water pump, some ice and water. First cover the front of the fan with the copper tube, leaving small gaps to blow out the air. Now attach one end of the small water pipe to the copper tube and the other end of the water pipe to the pump. Put the pump inside the container. Now put some ice cubes into the container and pour some water into it.

When turned on, the cold water will pass through the copper tube and the air blown out by the fan will be cooled down.

7. MINI EVAPORATIVE AIR CONDITIONER:-

This project is suitable for a small apartment. You will be needing a plastic container, a computer cooling fan, 3 sponges and a 12v battery.

Cut a hole in the plastic container to fit the computer cooling fan, then make some holes on the sides for ventilation. Now put 3 wet sponges inside the container and wire the fan to the 12v battery. This DIY AC is for dry climates because it adds humidity to the air due to evaporative cooling.

8. DIY PELTIER THERMOELECTRIC COOLER FAN:-

Now, lets look at this techincal project which includes some computer parts. In this project we will be using Peltier-12706 thermoelectric cooler: a tiny thin, electronic part normally used to cool down computer CPUs.

First of all connect the Peltier-12706 thermoelectric cooler to a Computer cooling fan. Now connect a pvc pipe to the fan vertically. Now connect the fan to a 12v and 5A power supply via a DC jack.

You can now cool you room using the same system which used to cool computers.

9. HOMEMADE PORTABLE AIR CONDITIONER FAN CANON:-

This is similar to the 6th project but this DIY AC will blow more air than the previous one. To build this project you will need a plastic container, a mini fan, a pump, a copper tube, a PVC pipe, some ice and water.

First of all connect the fan to the PVC pipe. Now wound the copper tube inside the PVC pipe and connect the 2 ends to the pump. Now put the pump inside the container and pour some ice and water into the container. At last connect the pump and fan to a power supply.

10. POND PUMP-POWERED SWAMP COOLER:-

This build includes a pond pump and an evaporative cooler pad. Pinned up with a wooden frame, the project builder claims that it can reduce the temperature indoors by over 20°F.

This is the most complex project listed here, and requires a source of relatively cool water.
